What are risk factors for head neck cancer?

Almost 90 percent of head and neck cancers arise after prolonged exposure to specific risk factors. Use of tobacco (cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, or snuff) and alcoholic beverages are the most common cause of cancers of the mouth, throat, voice box, and tongue.

What are the common symptoms of head neck cancer?

Painless swelling in the neck, change in the voice, lesion/ulcer in the mouth, swallowing problems, difficulty breathing, unexplained weight loss, changes in the skin, persistent earache, nasal obstruction, nose bleed, pain in throat, pain in the ear.

How do we diagnose head neck cancer?

To confirm a diagnosis of cancer and determine its spread, patient needs to undergo endoscopy for biopsy and imaging studies such as CT scan/ MRI Neck with contrast, panoramic dental x-ray, PET/CT and/or Chest Xray for mapping.

How do we treat head neck cancer?

Treatment for head and neck cancerdepends on its size, type, location, growth rate and your general health. It can be treated either with surgery, Radiotherapy and/or Chemotherapy depending upon its location &stage. We use international guidelines & protocols for its treatment.Our approach is to minimize the complication during surgery and provide best standard of care to our patient even after surgery with multidisciplinary team approach.
