“Blindness cuts us off from things, but deafness cuts us off from people.”
~Helen Keller
What is the need?
Health checkup is critical for early diagnosis and treatment for any individual
In formative years , sensory checks are critical – Eye and Hearing
Children cannot perform in school if they don’t have right input – i.e. normal hearing.
In USA , about 8 % school going children have been noted to have hearing impairment
Our research in India with @1000 children also indicates 6-8% children needs symptoms of hearing impairment and need further screening
What will happen if hearing loss goes undetected?
It will result into:
Lack of concentration and poor grades
Inability to articulate sounds and words resulting into poor speech and language development
behavioural issues like frustration and anxiety
World Hearing Day on March 3 2023. We performed free hearing test at SPM English school, Pune
With early diagnosis and treatment all this can be prevented.
Let us understand the”EAR”
The human ear consists of three parts- the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear.
The ear canal of the outer ear is separated from the air-filled tympanic cavity of the middle ear by the eardrum.
The middle ear contains the three small bones, the ossicles, which are involved in the transmission of sound .
The inner ear contains the otolith organs- the utricle and saccule, and the semicircular canals belonging to the vestibular system, as well as the cochlea of the auditory system.
